Swifty takes Second for Team Sky at Ride London

Last weekend (5th/6th August) saw the return of Prudential RideLondon, a 2-day cycling festival held in London and organised by the Mayor of London.

Aimed at anyone who likes to get around on two wheels, the event features courses for the casual rider (Free Cycle), the club/weekend rider (Surrey 100) and the Pros (with a much stronger field for this year’s RideLondon Classic; a variation on the London 2012 Olympic Road Cycling Race route).

Amongst the teams turning out for the Classic, our interest was firmly on Team Sky, who are fuelled by CNP and who choose to field a strong line up including previous Tour de France winner Sir Bradley Wiggins, as well as a return to competitive cycling for British rider Ian Stannard.

But it was the CNP sponsored athlete Ben Swift who made the headlines, finishing second to fellow British rider Adam Blythe in a dramatic finish that saw 5 world-class riders including Philippe Gilbert, Julian Alaphilippe and Kristijan Koren battle it out through the streets of London.

Despite being pipped by Blythe, the Team Sky rider was magnanimous in defeat saying: “I’m super happy for Adam. I’ve been racing with him since we were five or six years old and it’s nice to share the podium with him.”

The Surrey 100, which is open to amateurs and offers the opportunity to take on the same course as the pros, was sadly shortened due to the weather. Despite this, thousands still turned out to complete the revised course.

At CNP, our products aren’t just for the pro team athletes, but can help all levels of rider achieve their cycling goals. A few months ago we caught up with several members of Team Sky to get some advice on how amateur riders should approach nutrition:
