CNP’s Big Weekend at Rapha Tempest

The biggest cycling race in the world came to the UK last weekend and it seemed like half of Britain turned up to line the streets of Yorkshire and cheer on the riders of the Tour De France.

It seemed for a few days that this country had gone cycling mad.

The truth is that this country is already cycling mad. Cycling is the 3rd most popular sport in the country* and it is this obsession with two wheels that prompted Rapha to create the first ever cycling festival named ‘Rapha Tempest’ – which was held at Broughton Hall Estate over the few days leading up to the Grand Depart.

Naturally, we saw this as a great opportunity to introduce our brand new CNP cycling range, as used by Team Sky during the Tour De France to an audience of highly discerning cycling fans.

We spent the three days handing out samples of our new Race Drink, breakfast smoothies and energy bars and asking those who tried them for feedback. The race drink and energy bars have all been developed with the feedback from the riders in Team Sky, so it was a delight to see so many cyclists also really enjoy the products. At the end of the weekend, we’d given out as much of the berry flavoured race drink as we had the mango and banana, so it was impossible to tell which one was the crowd favourite!

On top of this we brought Team Sky’s head of nutrition Nigel Mitchell in to present an in-depth look into how teams like Team Sky will use nutrition during the Tour de France. Nigel talked not only about the CNP products that Team Sky will be using, but also the food that the Team Sky riders will be eating, including the much heralded rice cakes and breakfast porridge.

We also had the pleasure of partnering with Rollapaluza, whose roller racing bikes had the crowd competing furiously against one another throughout the weekend. The final winners were Leanne Farrell and Justin Saturlely who both put in monumental shifts over a 500 metre sprint to finish in 26.28 and 22.55 respectively, and picked up a £50 CNP voucher each

It was then time for the big event itself and the whole festival congregated in front of the big screens to watch the Grand Depart. It was a fantastic scene – and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
