CNP Official Supplier to Friend Life Tour of Britain

We’re really proud to announce that CNP are an Official Supplier to 2014’s Friends Life Tour of Britain, highlighting our continued commitment to cycling in the UK.

The Tour of Britain, last year won by Sir Bradley Wiggins, is the UK’s biggest professional cycle event, with 108 top cyclists racing through nine stages, covering more than 1,350 kilometres.

The 2014 event starts on Sunday 7th September in Liverpool, with a world-class field competing over eight days before culminating in a time trial and criterium in London on Sunday 14th September.

More than a million fans are expected to line the route to watch the country’s largest free-to-spectate sporting event and we’ll be there for every stage along the way, so if you’re planning on coming down to watch – come say hello and sample some of our delicious products, which we’ll be handing out for everyone to try.

Team Sky has fielded a strong team again this year, headed up by Sir Bradley Wiggins and including CNP athlete Ben Swift. The team will be looking to defend the title they took last year, and face some tough competition from a world-class field.

This event also includes the participation of another British cycling team who are fuelled by CNP – the Great Britain Cycling Team, who use the opportunity to pick a team of bright young talent from their ranks. Following a very successful Commonwealth Games this summer (in which CNP fuelled the winners of all 25 cycling medals won by British riders), we’d expect the team to be pushing for some decent results.

The competitiveness of the race is testament to not just the growing status of the Tour of Britain in the world of professional cycling, but also the increasing popularity of cycling amongst the British public, who turned out in their millions to line the roads of Britain for the Tour de France Grand Depart earlier this summer.

Indeed, cycling is now the third most participated sport in the UK behind swimming and athletics with 2.1 million people participating in the sport on a weekly basis. (source: Sport England http://www.sportengland.org/research/who-plays-sport/by-sport/)

Whilst our expertise is used by the sport’s top teams and athletes, we are also committed to providing healthy nutrition to those who participate in the sport at all levels. Cycling, as much as any sport is a great way of staying fit and healthy but should be viewed as only one side of a healthy lifestyle in which nutrition plays a vital role.

Earlier this year we launched a new range of high protein breakfast products in partnership with Team Sky. This week sees us add to this range with a new selection of convenient, healthy breakfast products, which are all high in protein and aimed at giving you the best start to the day.

CNP has long pioneered the benefit of protein in elite athlete’s diets: supporting a huge range of professionals from boxers, cyclists, footballers, bodybuilders and more, but we have also recognised it’s important role in the diet of everyday healthy nutrition, something that has been picked up on by a growing number of people .

So if you’re coming down to watch any of the stages, do come and try these delicious products for yourself and let us know what you think – we’re always looking for feedback or you can follow our progress via social media
