Hi

I am new to this site and am loving reading all the threads with good information and excellent training and diet tips so top stuff lads. Always makes things easier when good info is just a click away.

I am seeking some advice. I have trained in the gym for roughly 10yrs but never really seriously. In the last 3 - 4 months I have started to try to gain some lean muscle and train harder (including having a better diet).

However just recently I am getting constantly sore biceps (in the lower biceps like you would get the day after training them but for weeks at a time). I am 30yrs old, train my biceps only once a week - 2 exercises for 2 - 3 sets each. I use Pro Recover after each training session and Pro MR during the day to suppliment my other meals. I recently had a weeks rest to see if they would recover but they are still sore when trained.
This is now also affecting my upper back workouts when the biceps are used.

Can anyone suggest why this is happening and if there is anything I can do?

Thanks

what exercises do you do for biceps?

it could be any exercise where you are excessively straightening your arms (eg preacher curls)

it could even be coming from other exercises, eg very deep dips.

can you give us more info on your routine please.

I use an EZ bar to do standing curls (as they dont have a preacher bench at my gym) and then do concentration curls.

I have not had dips in my workout for this last 5 - 6 week period.

Maybe it could be that I am straightening my arms too much.

What would be recommended. Carry on training biceps but at lower weights until they recover or rest them completely for a while? Also are there other bicep exercises that could be suggested that would be more comfortable to perform?

Thanks

sounds like youve got an injury. go and see the doctor or a physio

as benney said it is worth getting checked out.

something else to consider is your form. without seeing how you do what you do, anything could be to blame. is there any way you could get a clip on the internet for us to see how you train.

As stated above i think I may have been excessively straightening my arms. I have rested them for over a week (had a cardio week), changed my form and they seem to be a lot better. Still ache but no-where near as bad.

Cheers for the advice....

Have you been using an supplements to help them? I always find protect helps and pro omega even more so when I've had problems with tendons.

sounds like tendon inflammation,i would use lighter weights than usual and pump blood into the muscles with high reps.
set 1 20 reps
set 2 15 reps
set 3 10 reps

Cheers for all the advice. Biceps have been much better recently. Prob back to 90% now.

Not straightening my arms as much when doing curls, not putting on too much weight - been concentrating more on technique and a slower lowering motion to keep the bicep working constantly, and have also added an extra day between my back workout and my bicep workout.
