Hi Kerry

Just want your opinion on how best to improve a boxers punching power, i have just won my 3rd pro fight at lightweight, i would like to improve my Punching power.

I am doing 2 sessions of weights per week working the whole body each time. Just wondered if there was anything in particular i should be doing? or just continue with weight sessions.

Any suggestions would be a great help

Thanks
Tony

kk - First of all congratulations on winning your 3 pro fights. I see boxers using weights and a lot of the time they don't really know what they are doing. Light weights, high repetitions will give you some cardio vascular fitness but you are already fit as a boxer so my advice to boxers is always lift heavy weights on a rep range on anything from 6 - 10. You must remember you are lifting weight to help your boxing, not hinder it so do not weight train for more than 15-20 minutes, 3 or 4 times a week. I would suggest the following:-

Monday - Do some back work and biceps
Wednesday - Legs, this is where the power punching comes from
Friday - Some chest and shoulder work and a small amount of triceps

Remember if you lift weights and box you are putting a bigger demand on muscle recovery so you must use a bioavailable protein.
