If I may interject while Kerry is away at the Portsmouth show. Why do you think that Tommi doesn't train the Vastus Lateralis? The primary function of that particular muscle, along with the other quadriceps is to extend the knee. This means it's involved with every single exercise you have just mentioned.

kk - I agree with Paul (sorry Paul, I cant call you ninepack!) its impossible in leg extension, squats or leg press not to train that part of the quads. Its no different than when I hear people say I do flat bench press for my middle pecs incline for my upper pecs and decline for my lower pecs, trust me, if you go to true failure in any of the bench presses, your body will recruit all the chest to move that weight and all of Tommi's quads are being used in the above exercises.

Having said all that it is not unusual for a pro bodybuilder to stop training certain body parts and I have advised a few to do this. Bodybuilding is about balance ie. the legs must be in proportion to the upper body and as we know, this is not always the case but an example would be. you normally find someone with a good body part that it overpowers his physique because 1) it is gentically better but 2) as they have got this good body part, they enjoy training it, sometimes more than the lagging part they should be concentrating on. Then as they've battered the legs, it then takes 3 or 4 days nutrition to repair those legs, robbing those vital nutrients from the lagging body parts, as i said I have advised some pro bodybuilders to stop training legs and they have found an incredible spurt of growth to the upper body as it is now getting 7 day worth of nutrition.

As it happens I know Tommi very well and being big headed it was me that pushed him to apply for his pro card, I introduced him toWayne and had him guest pose at a Grand Prix that I ran. Wayne was that impressed he issued him his pro card.

I remember when you explained that approach to me a while ago. It's something so simple, yet few can comprehend it, as they seem to think they absolutely have to train every bodypart every week 'just because'.

I used a specific split routine on my back & arms & it made a massive difference. As you say, all the recuperation, nutrition & training stimulus is concentrated on the lagging parts instead of being diluted accross the whole body for the sake of it.

That was one of those 5 minute chats with you that was worth more than 5 years of studying.

kk - Exactly, there would be so many bodybuilders even if the body part in the bodybuilders eye is not the finished article, if it is way ahead of the rest of the body, then stop training it to bring the body into balance.
